Halloween in WeHo 2022

Despite my deep desire to just stay in this Halloween night, 

especially after the Halloween crush that killed over 150 people in Seoul, Korea,

I found myself in downtown WeHo singing 

You're The One That I Want

with 7 Bad Sandies.

Originally, I was going to stay in...

Then, my friend, Chris Pudlo, invited me to a party at his home.

I thought, "I'll do that. It's nearby and I can see costumed people

as I walk there - Away from downtown WeHo."

Then, muh DAB, Dudley informed me that he 

and a few of our friends were going to hang out and watch something

before they head out to the boulevard starting at 2 or 3 pm.

Feeling a little tired of work, I thought,

"Well, I can start out with them and walk over to Chris' from

downtown WeHo."

I took a few personal hours away from work,

slapped on my laziest costume in years and joined Dudley and the fellas.

When I got there, there was less watching something

and more 7 guys getting into Bad Sandy drag.

It promised to be a a fun group costume.

And, it was!

Before we knew it, the sun was setting and it was time to hit the streets.

It was only a little before 6, so I had a few hours to kill before the party.

I remained with the Sandies, carrying their music source as  

You're The One That I Want

played on an endless loop.

The Bad Sandies were a hit!

Channel 5 news ate them up

Folks on the street loved them

And a savvy DJ put 

You're The One That I Want

on the moment the Sandies walked into Gym Bar

and the crowd went wild!
Everyone joined in.

Despite my worries of a rogue Halloween mob taking over the streets of WeHo,

it turns out that it was busy, but not scary crazy crowded, 

so I felt relaxed enough to hang with the Sandies awhile...

(Fake cigarettes; the Sandies weren't THAT bad!)

Before I knew it,

it was 10pm

and I was pooped.

I sent Chris psychic regrets and 

walked home.

All in all, 

it was a nice, fun evening out

and I got a bunch of pics

on the street and in bars

Motherload, Heart and Gym Bar.

I also got to see a few friends on the street...

You may recall that he made my wonderfully delicious

costumes for Best In Drag Show 2018!

Additionally, I got some fun shots

of holiday celebrations, spewky stuff 

and hot guys.

Too Busy For Love - Year of the Crown Part 1

You know I've been lamenting how busy I've been, and these last few months have been crazy, but I assure you, it's not just a cute heading for my blog.  I've been so busy, it's taken a year for me to post this tidbit.   About half of my 2018 was dedicated to BEST IN DRAG SHOW, a fundraiser for Alliance For Housing and Healing, as well as for Aid for AIDS.

It started in April, when I auditioned.

Once I found out about the auditions I got to work getting the idea for my show together.  I had to come up with 4 categories; INTRO

SWIMSUIT

TALENT

Evening Gown/Interview

 And they announced their six contestants

Once I found out I made it into the show, I had 5 months to get it all together.  I immediately went to Carol at Carol's Bridal.  She's who I usually run to to get my dresses made.  She said, "Sure! Get the fabric and I will make these."  She immediately got started on my Intro dress.

Later, I realized that Carol and I  hadn't discussed fabrics and construction strategies, (really, what fabric does one use to make a Nacho Poncho that stays crisp on the catwalk?) so, I decided I needed some advice.  I remembered that my friend John Coulter usually had fabulous Halloween costumes;

 I made a call and invited him to breakfast to show him my costume designs for advice & wisdom.  He took a gander and said he would give it some thought.  The next morning he called and said he would make my costumes!  I was all "WHAAAAAAT?"  That was an amazing and miraculous blessing!  I shared my budget and John went to work!  He sent me photos of stuff in the works.

We discussed new ideas and he improved on my original designs and ideas.  I did my part crafting a few details

 rigging the pecans that would drop right under my my dress on cue and these Dora the Explorer shoes that would be the cherubs in my Lady of Guadalupe evening gown...

Before I knew it, a few months had passed and it was time for the photo shoot for pics used in the show 

to promote the show

and for the BIDS calendar

With the main photography done, and publicity for the show going out, I had just a month and a half before the show!
