Getting Out - Ex-A-Sketch

Back in May, muh DAB, Dennis Hensley, invited me to join him for XX-A-Sketch, a drink & draw kinda thing at The Bullet bar in Burbank.  You know my instinct was to say, "No, thank you, I think I'm separating laundry and matching socks that afternoon."  I fought it because I know, that if I'm claiming that I'm open to finding/being in a relationship, I have to GET OUT.  I'll admit that the idea of staring at a scantily clad fella for a few hours was a big factor in my saying yes.  Also, I'm thanking Dennis, right here and now, for finding all of these great activities that aren't run of the mill get out of the house stuff and inviting me!

So, we get there and we're joined by our friend, Ron.  They have supplies there for sketching/drawing our tasty model, but Dennis had gone ahead and brought some of his own materials.

It was a lovely afternoon, the bar was occupied by a good number of potential targets, and the staff was nice, friendly and cuh-ute!

There were a few fellas there I had torrid affairs with in my mind, or simply thought, he looks nice and I'd like to be neked with him.

Then, our model stepped out.  He started out with fun bunny ears on, because it was so close to Easter.  When those came off, he still had this cool, retro vibe about him that I was digging, quite groovily.

Did I mention I'm not much of an artist when it comes to drawing/sketching?  My eyes were so full of man, I didn't know where to start.  I tried starting at the top, with the idea of working my way down.  I didn't stop to correct stuff; I just kept going. When I got this far, I realized I'd make the worst police sketch artist in the world.  Based on my sketch of this guy's face, a number of innocent Latino men would be spending a lot of time in line-ups because this looks nothing like the model, but, admittedly, if WIERD SCIENCE was real, I'd pop my sketch right in there along with a body shot of Joe Manganiello.

Before I could start drawing my way down to his neck & chest, the model changed positions.  I was a bit thrown off.  I didn't realize I would have just a few short minutes to sketch the model in the position he was in.  Sure, when I thought about it, it made sense that they wouldn't make this guy stay in the same position for hours, while we sketched, sipped and flirted.  That'd be so painful for him!  So, I had to adjust my artistic expectations and get into quick sketch mode and attempt a full-body drawing.

I got so into the drawing rapidly, that I almost forgot to keep an eye out for future husbands amongst the shifting crowd. ...Almost.  I'm fairly talented when it comes to scoping the guys.  For example, I'd totally let this guy make me an omelet.

I felt like I let myself get too distracted, because before I knew it, our guy was in a new position!

I tried to concentrate. I thought I would make proportion my main priority and let details fall to the wayside.  That is until I let myself get distracted by the staff.  I don't know why it is, but I've always had a thing for bartenders and waiters.  I think it's the wonderful idea of a hot, sexy man, bringing me food in bed. ...Naked.

Anyway, the afternoon slipped into night and before I knew it, our time with the hot retro-vibe model man was done.  Turns out, I had a great time.  I didn't even get close to meeting anyone for romantical exploration, but I got to hang out with Dennis & Ron, feast my eyes on tasty mens and exercise my slight drawing muscles for a few hours. Granted, my sketches wouldn't be hung up at a Tate Gallery (Maybe a T'aint Gallery), but that's not what the exercise was about for me.  However, if you wish to purchase my sketches for a moderate fortune, here is a sample of the goods.  Oh, yes, of course I'll sign these before sending them to you!

(At least the face is a little closer to looking like his.  I'n't it?)

So, if you're dying alone, but feel like you're open to not, please, take every opportunity to get out, be among people and take your chances at meeting your future partner.  At the very least, cherish you time with friends and hot guys.

I thank our model, Brandon, very much for his modeling (Don't worry, I tipped via Venmo the day of) and leave you with two more lovely poses from him.

GET OUT!

Getting Out _ Bear Soup

 My Update continues...

As you know, if you're dying alone and you're open to, maybe, not dying alone, it's important to get out!
So, back in April, when muh DAB, Dennis Hensley asked if I wanted to go to a pool party/video release party hosted by our friend, Tom Goss, I said, "Fuck Yeah!"  (Even though, I was looking forward sitting at home alone, working on my fabulous Easter Bonnet.)  I'm glad I did! It was a fun time!

You remember my friend, Tom Goss, don't you?  He makes music and like bear guys!
Tom Goss

Well, Tom had recently made a video for his song, BEAR SOUP and he threw a release party in the same setting that the video was shot, a big back yard with a fabulous swimming pool. He sported his video caftan,

while the other guys, mostly bears, wore the usual swim party attire.

There were yummy food snacks, socializing and most importantly, swimming!

Tom mixed around with all the party folk,

while I stuck mostly with Dennis, because I didn't know many people there.  I remember thinking to myself that I SHOULD know more people there.

I remember thinking that while we were sitting in the hot tub...

"I SHOULD know more of the people here!" I thought very loudly.

Actually, some hottie that I am acquainted with (not pictured) showed some interest in me and I jumped at the chance of creating some more steam outside of the hot tub.  There was some smooching happening, little grabs here & there and then we made a plan.  We would sneak away after the viewing of the video premiere!   That would be a few hours later...

Speaking of later, my friend and sometimes castmate, Thomas Colby, showed up.
You remember him! We did the stunts in the reading of MOMMIE DEAREST for Sean Abley's Life Cycle fundraiser!
Remember?  We were stunt Christina & stunt Joan!

With Thomas there, I had another friendly face to socialize with as we waited for the premiere to screen, after the sun went down.  So evening hit and the video was shown.  Apparently, the sun wasn't the only thing to go down.  So did the other guy's interest in hooking up.  I don't know what happened, but there we were.  If this hurt more than it did this would be a "This Is Why I'm Single" entry.
Thomas REALLY liked the video

Alas, the evening ended, we said our goodnights and I went home; Alone, Disappointed, but otherwise satisfied from a fun day in the sun with friends, hot guys and snacks.
Mostly, I was happy for Tom and excited to celebrate his birthing another delightful creation.
I admire his artistry and consistency in producing new works and moving forward, every day!
Congratulations, Tom!

Getting Out - Don't Clown Around!

See that weirdo next to me in the pic up above?  That's Brett, we've been Super Pals since 2001 and I've learned more than my share from this guy.  One of the most important lessons has been, if someone asks you to do something with them, don't just say, "yeah" say, "FUCK, YEAH!!"  Let people know how much spending time with them means to you.  Of course, this lesson is applied to dating situations (and gauging someone else's interest in you...), but since I don't date much, I've learned to apply to beloved friends, as well.  When Brett asked if I wanted to see IT 2, I texted back, FUCK YEAH!  So why was I even surprised (ever so delightfully so,) when Brett showed up at the Cinerama Dome in full Pennywise make-up?   Brett is all FUCK, YEAH!

It's a rule I've tried to live by for a good number of years, now, but Mark Manson took control a few years back and created a FUCK YES LAW right HERE, that could stand to be read again.

Happy New Year - 2019!

So, this year, I left the pajamas at home and joined my friends for a turn at playing You Don't Know My Life, (you know that game my friends, Dennis Hensley & Jeb Stevens invented) for the last few hours of 2018.  It was a very nice time and I got out of the house!  The only regretful part of the night was following uo the game with a hot fudge sundae at Bob's Big Boy.  It was delicious, but probably not something I needed at 2:30AM.

I started up the new year with a repeat of last year's first activity, the pajama brunch at Stella Barra!
I had a breakfast pizza-all by myself!  We followed up the brunch with a movie- SECOND ACT starring Jennifer Lopez.  We were entertained for all the wrong reasons- while the cast is great, the movie is pretty bad... but we were entertained!  Then, I came home and fell into a mini-coma.
The day was gone and I had no time to ponder what fantastic and life-altering changes I am gonna make in my life for the new year.  All I know for sure is that I need to slow down this huge carousel I'm on and find some time to be me and to make more room for romance, or at least, movies I really wanna see! Can you believe I still haven't seen HALLOWEEN or CRAZY RICH ASIANS??

Getting Out - DTLA Proud 2018

You'll be very proud of me! You see, Drag Season is stretching on a bit and Chico's Angels will be hosting the stage tonight at DTLA Proud in fabulous Down Town Los Angels tonight from 7 to 10.  That means, I'll be spending the day getting in drag, transporting to the venue and performing without getting much of a chance to enjoy the festivities.  So yesterday, I was able to fight the urge to stay home & nap (or actually work on my talent portion of the big BEST IN DRAG SHOW only a month away!) and hopped a train to Pershing Square for the afternoon, into the evening!  It was a really good time!

The place was all decked out in Proud decor where people lounged

Played sports...

Visited community-based booths offering social/health services and other GLGBT
interests...
Shopped in a small section for local vendors, (where I purchased these fabu pins from Starrfucker Mag's booth...)

And just hung out having a lovely time...

There was even some Mario Diaz SUMMER TRAMP going on!

(Mario Diaz)

(The jumpy castle thingy)
And even though I was fine going alone, I ran into a few friends...
 (Omar Haro)

(Drew Staten)

And ended up spending a good part of the afternoon with my dear friends, Dennis Hensley and Jack Plotnick and Brett Glazer...

We had a blast.  We made our way over to Summer Tramp and frolicked in the clouds

And we enjoyed dancing to some funky tunes...

We enjoyed some fun prop/photo ops,

Then, we ran into more friends, like Bryan Thompson and Paulo Andino.

Then we enjoyed waiting for our food at the many tasty food trucks!

Also, the stage was occupied by some very talented, if not truly (intentionally) frightening characters!

(The Boulet Brothers)

(Kendra Onixx)

(Abhora)

There were also hotties up there...
 (Tito Soto)

(The Wolf)

All in all it was a very pleasant experience, and reminded me of the Gay Pride events in West Hollywood 20 years ago, where it was more about the community coming together and less about popular corporate butt kissers and expensive festival pricing.
Please enjoy more of the lovely sights...

I had a great time and plan to return next year! ...as myself, if I'm not performing, like tonight...
and if I can get myself to leave my home!

BIG KISS DTLA Proud, until next year!

P.S. on the train home, I saw this cutie... I guess DTLA Proud will stay with me for a while.
