Too Busy For Love - A week of TRICK and treats!

My dear friends, I've been meaning to post more about the loss of a DAB and Gay Pride LA, but I've been too busy!!  I haven't even watched The TONYS, yet!!  When I'm too busy to watch The Tonys, I AM TOO BUSY!!!

Instead of heading home to watch my favorite awards show on Monday, I headed over to Disney's California Adventure to catch the World of Colors Show, as an appetizer for Tuesday's festivities...

A trip to Disneyland to visit the new Star Wars land, Galaxy's Edge!
(Darth Vader, Oscar Quintero (Kay Sedia), Dunquito, Daron Quintero and me)

"I did the Casserole Run in 12 forkfuls!"

Then, on Wednesday, after work, instead of watching Elaine May accept her Tony for Best Lead Actress in a Play,  I went to someone else's home to feed these fur butts...

(I spent one night in my own bed, after two weeks of cat sitting,
now I'm sharing a bed with these lovable goofs)
Then, I immediately rushed over to The Hayworth to catch one of my favorite people, Drew Droege, in his one man show, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOUG! in which he plays the entire party of messy gays.
I wasn't alone, I was with a few of muh DABs and some Attacheds.
(Me, Dennis Hensley, Jackie Clark, Matt Zarley, Glenn Gaylord, Jeb Havens)

(Me with Drew Droege)
I don't know if I was fully capable of telling Drew how much I enjoyed his performance(s) and how much I admire him as an actor, but I think my big, too long hug got some of it across!

Then, last night, without getting to see what number from THE PROM was performed at the Tonys,
I fed the dogs then hopped over to the Harmony Gold to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of TRICK!

This movie has a special place in my heart for a few really good reasons, one of which is I actually lived out the plot on a trip to New York in 1994.  Perhaps there will be a post telling you that story a little later, if I'm not too busy...
Anyway, I say I love this movie often, but it had been many years since I had actually sat and watched it again.  I got a little worried; you know how sometimes you see a movie and love it, then a few years later watch it again and wonder "What was I thinking?"  or "It's still okay, but not as great as I thought..."  I took for granted that I love this movie, but last night all of my original feelings for TRICK came back full force.  I think I even appreciated it more as an actor, an older gay and audience member.  Sure, there was a lot of nostalgia flooding my heart, but the spark really was new and bright again. Jim Fall really captured something special in TRICK and I'm grateful I got to experience it again!

My friends, Heath Daniels, That Guy and Darren Stein were in attendance-
(Speaking of sparks, check out Darren Stein's movie SPARKLER. It is a TREAT!)

That Tired Old Queen at the Movies, Steve Hayes, who plays Perry was there!
Hunky John Paul Pitoc was there!

Christian Campbell,( whose performance I appreciated even more), was there!

That sweetheart director, Jim Fall, was there!
He really is sweet!

Brad Beyer, the straight roommate, was also there!
You know who wasn't there,
Tori Spelling (Excused- she's shooting the 90120 reboot)
and Miss Coco Peru!
I was looking forward to taking a picture with Miss Coco Peru
because you can NEVER have too many pictures with Miss Coco Peru!
I can't stand not to post one,
So... I'll just post one from 2011
I am lucky to have so many talented people in my life and if none of that talent rubs off on me, I'll be happy just watching their work and hoping to learn.

So, there you have it, a week so busy I couldn't watch the Tonys, much less, even think of finding someone to fall in love with!

From the Interwebs - Great Tip!

I found this on the interwebs.  It's a really great idea, I always worry about something happening to me at a time that I am dogsitting.  I might have to take this idea and create one for myself.
I don't pet sit all that often, so I'm also going to make one that I can use all the time, 24/7.

Getting Out FAIL - Out of the Red

So here’s the thing… I went to the Red Dress party at the Gold Coast bar back in 2008 and had a great time.  I have sworn, ever since, that I would return.  Despite my intentions and the fact that it is only a 10 minute walk away from my home (a mere 1 minute walk prior to 2011…) I have never made it back because of my busy schedule and ever increasing involvement in Drag Season.  This year could have been different..
You see I was pet sitting these two lovely creatures,

merely 2 blocks away from the bar, when I realized that the Red Dress Party was going on.   I knew this because I saw the festivities revving up when I returned from seeing
The Humans at the Ahmanson with muh DAB, Dennis Hensley, at about 3:00.

 GREAT SHOW!!  GO SEE IT!!!

I thought, I’d take care of the animals, pack up my things, then head over to the Gold Coast at about 5:00, have a hooch or two then, still be home by 8 or 9…
Or even get lucky, meet a nice fella in a red dress, then end up slinking home just before work, Monday morning.

Those things did not happen.

What had happen was this;  I took care of the animals, gathered up my stuff, got in the car, considered driving around the block to the bar, parking and joining the fun.  That wouldn’t work because my stuff included my laptop and other valuables I didn’t want to risk losing to theft.  So, I drove home, unloaded my stuff, then sat on the sofa.   Apparently, I fell into a coma-like sleep and awoke in a sweaty haze at about 6:30pm.  I could not move.  I thought, ‘But it’ll be fun! You’ll get some great pics! Maybe you’ll get lucky..!'  I still could not move.  I sat cursing myself for my laziness & exhaustion.  I failed at getting out.

Even though I failed, it doesn’t mean you should suffer and not see any pics of the event.
Here are some pics from my 2008 Red dress Adventure. ( I wasn't in drag- this was before I had a lot of that crap on hand.)

What did I do instead of going to the party?
I ordered Kung Pao Bistro delivery, planted myself on the sofa and watched almost all of KILLING EVE!

It’s really good, you guys!
I almost stayed up all night to finish it, but my inner adult said,
“GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP, IDIOT!”

So, maybe the next time I have a window in my schedule and there’s a party going on, I’ll Get Out.

Gay of A Certain Age - Full Pooch Testing

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of dogsitting two little cuties, Scooper & Princes Luau
(Not their real names, but really close).
It was quite a treat to come home from work and have these cuties yammering for me from their kitchen confinement as I walked in.  I lifted them up & out and recieved my well anticipated kisses.
It was nice having the weight of other little bodies on the bed as we lay down to sleep and cuddle as the morning proved chilly with an overnight dose of air conditioning.  I got to see more of my neighbors as I took the doggies out, three times a day for terlet fun & walkies.  I had a test run of what it would be like to have two of my own puppy pals full-time.  Honestly it was a delight.
...but not totally.  If I may be more honest, some things about it weren't all fun.  I did feel the sting of waking up earlier to add walkies to my morning routine, or the loss of extra sleep time on the weekend.  I didn't sleep as almost well as I usually almost, what with worrying that I'd roll over & squish one of my furry guests.  I missed lunch with my co-workers because I came home at lunch time for afternoon walkies.  I couldn't socially lolly-gag after work, since I had pups to get home to.  I would have preferred to plunk down on the sofa after work, but I had to walk a half a block to a park. AND back! While both of the girls are lovely, that Scooper is a rascal and very smart.  She figured out how to get their confinement gate down and the escaped, to have run of the place until I came home.  They didn't do any harm to anything, but she wanted me to know she could... if she wanted to!

Don't get me wrong, my very minor complaints are based in laziness and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them, but it did give me taste of full-time puppy daddyhood.  I felt the pressure of time, and my poor time managemnt and I don't think I'm ready for pups, yet.
I will say I'm a little closer to it, though.

National Dog Day - Poor Me

It's National Dog Day and I don't have a pic of my own pup to post.
I know a puppy companion would greatly improve my home life,
but my lifestyle, right now, doesn't allow for a four footed pal to get the optimal attention
they so deserve.  So, until I make a big lifestyle change, I will post pics I took of some other
folks' pups!  If you don't see your pooch here, dear friend, it's not that I love them less,
I just gots limited space...

HAPPY DOGGIE DAY!!
