Too Busy For Love - A Whole Lotta Best in DTLA Proud!

I'd love to go to that movie with you, the one about the robot dog, but I can't!  I have a very drag heavy weekend ahead of me!  Tonight, I have to go see Kay Sedia & Lotta Slots in their show,
A WHOLE LOTTA KAY at the Casita Del Campo!

Then, Sunday I have a double whammy of drag; in the morning, I have a talent preview for BEST IN DRAG SHOW where I have to show the producers exactly what I'm doing in the show.
(original artwork by Phillip Orozco)

My talent portion is not turning out exactly how I planned, but I can still make it work.  The toughest part is figuring out how to get this hunky guy to rehearse!
This is Duke Shoman, you may remember him as one of Chico's Angels' hunks.  He is a living doll (and a great photogopher!) but he doesn't have a lot of time.  I can't reveal too much, but my talent portion involves him shirtless, blindfolded and holding a stick!  I just gotta figure out a way to bring it all together for the meeting Sunday morning.

What do you mean I skipped Saturday?  OMG! It's my blog, I think I know what I'm doing...
I'll be busy Saturday, checking out the grounds of DTLA Proud where Chico's Angels will be hosting the stage 7:00 - 10:00 PM on Sunday!

Then, on Monday, I gotta take a personal hour or two from work to go be interviewed, IN DRAG, as Frieda Laye for a very local station.

So, while I'd love to fondle your dog while watching a metal dog on the big screen this weekend, I can't! I'm too busy!!

This Is Why I Am Single - Texas Miss

Remember that Too Busy For Love thing?  Well, as if a full year's schedule of Chico's Angels shows ain't enough to keep me away from dating, I went and done sumpthin' real stupid.

I threw together a couple of sketches and auditioned for BEST IN DRAG SHOW.

The audition seemed to go perty well, then I got the call telling that me I am in.  I will be my character Reba Areba, gunning for the crown as Miss Texas.
WHAT HAVE I DONE??

I have just committed myself to designing and creating 4-5 outfits and coming up with an entertaining show; preparing 6 months for a 1 night only event.  I hadn't even considered the hidden costs, the storage of costumes & props and transport of such things... The time working on the show, and promoting it while working full time and keeping up with Chico's Angels & Reba's schedules!

Am I crazy or sumpthin'?

How do I know how much time and work it is?  Well, back, over 15 years ago, I helped my, then, roommate, Kris put his show together and played a Mexican snow cone salesman for him...

That's where I met Oscar/Kay Sedia, who was running as Miss Mexico, little did I know how much of a time suck knowing Oscar would be!

The next year I returned to help my roommate, who ran again as another character, which firmly planted me in Oscar's head...

..leading to my involvement in Chico's Angels (another reason I am single & too busy for love).

Since then, the show has evolved into BEST IN DRAG SHOW

in a huge, fancy, historic theatre in DTLA

with shirtless hunks in the lobby promoting contestants

And contestants donning fabulous colorful & creative costumes

And Kay Sedia & Dee W. Iye doing color commentary every year.

Now I've put myself in the position of ignoring hundreds of invites to paint mugs at Color Me Mine or see someone's friend's Improv group in Reseda, in order to put together costumes & a talent that matches these clever bits...

WTF???

Why do it?
It's a fund raiser for Aid For AIDS and Alliance For Housing and Healing.
Stuff for Reba to post on her Instagram account.
With celebrity judges, a slight chance I'd meet Daniel Craig.
Not having to go see someone's friend's Improv group in Reseda...

All good reasons, but mostly to have fun and put on a great show!
I'm not concerned with winning ( I say that, now...) I just want to stretch my creative muscles and be part of something big, charitable and entertaining!

So, while I'd love to see the SHUSH! movie with you, I can't!  I'm too busy!
I have to prepare for this pageant!
...But first, I have to prepare two numbers for Reba Areba to sing in John Cantwell's Cinco De Mayo Show, My Connie De Mayo!

The shows are May 3 & 6 at the Cavern Club Celebrity Theatre  at the Casita Del Campo

Get tickets HERE

I have so much to do!  THIS IS WHY I AM SINGLE!!!

P.S. without revealing too much, I'm looking for a hunk with a big stick for my talent portion!

Like this Steve Siler guy, maybe?

Getting Out - The Ice Breaker

I had my friends Ted and Eduardo (Teduardo as Soap Fans might call them) in town and we had a lovely time.  Surprisingly, this is not a Too Busy For Love entry, but Lord knows it could have been.  We went to Dinner at Bowery Bungalow, (which I highly recommend) just before heading out to see THE GOLDEN GIRLZ at the Cavern Club Celebrity Theater
(Starring Jackie Beat, Alaska Thunderfuck, Sherry Vine and Sam Pancake)

We went DTLA for lunch at the Grand Market Cafe
and a tour of stuff & things!
(We rode the Angels Flight Railway car)

(We looked at a bunch of buildings and such!)

I took them to the Museum of Illusions

before we headed off to Dodger Stadium to catch Cirque Du Soleil's LUZIA

We had a brunch time adventure at Mel's Drive In with fellow Chico's Angel, Ray Garcia,

before stepping next door to the Hollywood Museum for the BATMAN Exhibit.

and then some...

Then, it all ended up in this Getting Out entry... We finished the weekend at the Gold Coast bar in West Hollywood, where we had a great time, sipping dainty drinks

shooting stick
and having a Gay old time!

Here's the thing, though, I saw a few guys I thought were attractive and I approached them!!
Yes, I went up to them and started conversations and I was not worried about rejection or nuthin'!
The first guy was super nice, we had a lot in common then, he dropped the "My Partner & I..." bomb.  Then, another I had noticed was singing along to all the great older songs the DJ was tossing out, became my prey.  I waited 'til there was an instrumental song on, went up to him and said, "What's wrong, don't know the words to this one?"  Which playful launched us into a conversation that went nowhere fast.  An older guy I wasn't really into asked me to play darts and I took him up on it.  Just then a group of 4 beardy guys formed and I decide that I found 50% of them way attractive and the other 50% none too bad, so after I was done with darts, I darted over to my target group.  One of them immediately recognized me from the Chico's Angels and I thought, "Well, I guess they're just gonna picture me in a dress the rest of the night...", but that didn't seem the case and we had a boisterous time.  I didn't get any phone numbers or emails, but I did get a chance to experience the me of olden times, when I had enough confidence to approach whomever I found attractive without fear of rejection.  Of course, it helped to have Teduardo nudging me and I'm sure the two Angry Orchard Hard apple Ciders didn't hurt either.  All I know is that after 4 full days of Teduardo's visit, I was ecstatically exhausted.

Getting Out - Jackie Beat's Kramps

Sunday night I might have sat at home staring at my four foot Christmas tree, but I thought, "No, Danny, get out!"  So, I took a shower because I was happily enjoying my time alone in my home, in my underwear...  Then I hopped in my car with hopes that I would get in to see Jackie Beat's Christmas Show at the Cavern Club Theater.
I was in luck and got in to enjoy Jackie's brilliant song parodies, in fab voice and a warm up by the delicious Deven Green.  I had a great time, but was disappointed that I could not get a photo with Jackie after the show, since she had a second show to prep for.  I'll just post this one of us in the early 2000's at Barracuda in Chelsea.

After Jackie's show I headed over to The Eagle, where I could enjoy a little quality time with Krampus!

My friends, Billy & Barry, let me know they would be there for Lumberjacked and thought it would be fun if I dropped by.  SPOILER ALERT! It was!!

I enjoyed a playing "Catch Up" with the guys as well as all the beardy hotties all around me, and because they had no Campari on hand, I also enjoyed a few Gin & Tonics- my go to at this time of year because it tastes like Christmas trees!  Then it got all spewky when Krampus showed up!

He stormed into the room and swooped me up into his hairy arms, then bent me over and spanked me!
I must confess, I got a little hard.

As the night wore on and Krampus' spanks' stings wore off, I decided to get my last Gin & Tonic.  It was there that I met, HIM.  He was a cute guy and he called me handsome.  Then, I realized he was drunk.  I figured, since I am a nice guy, he was probably safer with me.  Plus, he was really aggressively into me. Next, we're in my car headed to his place because he ride-shared there, then he made his first error.   He complained about being his age and not having someone.  He was all, "Look, I'm 36 and I don't have anyone.  Isn't that sad?" To which I replied, "I'm 48."  I would have been more clever, but I was driving.  He replied, "You ARE?" I guess he wasn't more clever because he was drunk.  I enjoyed the delicious awkwardness for a little bit, then the aggressive flirting resumed.   He lived in a nice apartment with a mysterious roommate who opened the door for us and disappeared into a bedroom before we were even half way through the door.  Then, we got neked in his bedroom.  I wish I could say that we had a whirlwind sex session that resulted in my quitting my job and moving all of my prized Dunnys to my side of his bedroom, but no.  I think the drunkness started setting in and he started in with the "I'm 36.  I think I'm ready to settle down and have children.  Don't you think we should?"  Then, while I was continuing to get the fun neked stuff going, he kept calling me, "Sir".  No, it wasn't a sexy thing, I think it was because I am 12 years older than him, but it sounded very much like an usher at the Lunt-Fontanne telling a tourist that he's not allowed to take photos in the theater.  Don't get me wrong, he's a cute, nice guy, but as he settled into his drunk, he got more needy.  All I could think was, "I gotta work tomorrow."  So, I pressed fast forward on the neked play, got my jollies and let him give in to that sleepy feeling.  With one last, "Sir, come here.  Come here.  Sir..." I lay next to him until he was asleep, then slipped my clothes on and slipped out.

It's been quite a while since I've had a bar hook up and I can't say that I'm proud about sneaking out, but isn't that how most of those go?  Isn't that why they are more rare, now?  I don't miss those.  It wasn't a bad time, but it would have been nice if I had enjoyed the night without being reminded about being alone in such a sad way.  I felt sadder for him than myself, because I don't mind it so much, but he sounded like it's something that's gonna weigh on him for a while.  Or, maybe, my confidence and bravado gave him a little hope that even if he's single for 12 more years, it'll be okay.
