S'up, Muh DAB? - Is this Bye Bye? Part 3

PREVIOUSLY on S'up, Muh DAB? - Is this Bye Bye?:
I told you about enjoying the single life with my Die Alone Buddy, Brett.

Then, Brett married Andrew

...and I made their marriage about me.

There, now that you're all caught up,
let me tell you how their marriage has affected me.
Not, badly, at all.

While there's really not more to say on the subject,
I have some pictures I'd like to share,
so, I'm gonna go on a bit.

First, I'll say that one of the biggest fears
I had about losing muh DAB
was that once he was married,
he'd end up being tied to the waist of his new husband
leaving me no time for buddy time with Brett.

I'm happy to say,
that that has not been the case.
Brett and Andrew have been able to maintain their relationship,
while not spending every freakin' moment of the day & night together.
They each have time when they can enjoy stuff with their friends,
or have time alone.
That has been my ideal all along,
and know that if I ever do find that someone,
this would be a big part of our relationship.
As I said in the few on-line dating profiles I've had,
"I'm looking for
someone who respects my my independence as much as they value their own."

I'm very happy for muh former DAB
for finding this.

That's not to say that there hasn't been any affect on our friendship.
Now, there's negotiations that need to be made before we can have our fun.
In the past, when we've decided we're going to Miami for the 4th of July,
(WHY? It's so gosh-darned hot!!
...but we have!)
we could just make our travel arrangements and go.
Now, if we ever wanted to do that,
Brett has to consult with someone before I can start picking hotels.

Also new; there's a whole other group of friends
to consider for invites to events.
What if Brett & Andrew are having an event that has to be small?
Now, not only am I contending with my own stable of friends,
suddenly, I'm up against Andrew's group of friends
for an invite, too!

BUT,
for all my worries about being left out
or loss of time with Brett,
the past couple of years have been pretty good.

Spending time with these two as a couple
has been quite nice.
Andrew fits in really well,
which can't be easy for someone younger
blending into a friendship
that's over 20 years old.

As I said, I don't see Andrew every time that I see Brett,
but I have seen him at times that are special to me.

...Like, my Birthday

...like, including me in a surprise for Brett's birthday

...or showing up when I'm in a dress

Speaking of which,
while I haven't spent much time with Andrew alone,
we did share something special
without Brett.
Andrew donated a good portion of his time to help me
with my return to the BEST IN DRAG SHOW,
to do a farewell number before I  handed over the crown.
I loved Chita Rivera's performance of
WHERE YOU ARE
(From KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN)
on the Tony awards and chose that for my show.
Andrew bravely agreed to dumb down the choreography for me,
a major non-dancer
and for two other hunky guys
who didn't exactly go to the FAME school of performing arts,
Ruben Zambrano and Erick Nett.
(Both sweethearts)

I'm sure he knew it would be a major undertaking,
but he did it,
for no pay, like, literally for charity

He graciously agreed to be in the number

...and literally do the HEAVY LIFTING.

I can not say how much I appreciated that
and couldn't be more proud of the work
he put into making it happen.

In addition to
being a great guy and helping out new friends,
he also appears to have a high tolerance
for our ridiculous idea of fun,
which includes, but is not limited to
Brett's photoshoots.
Sometimes, these can take an entire day,
but we enjoy the set-up time and the bonding.
Plus, they're really neato!!

I don't know if he thinks they're as fun as we do,
but he shows up!

Speaking of we:
I'm not the only one Andrew has to deal with,
there's a small, tight group of us
that he's squeezing into
and that can't be easy.

The dinners,

the holidays;
 a Christmas

a Fourth of July

a wedding...

So, while it may have been somewhat intimidating for him,
I'm very appreciative that Andrew
did not come in like a wrecking ball
and lay waste to Brett's friendships and friends-time,
as I've seen happen in other cases.
I needn't have feared losing anything it all.

And, even though
I have realized, over time,
that I can be stand-offish and not let people in right away,
I look forward to further developing a
lovely friendship with Andrew!
...If he has the patience.

So, while Brett may no longer be dying alone with me,
at least,
and most importantly,
we still get to watch
crappy horror movies together
from time to time!

Happy union Brett & Andrew
and thanks for the time!

Getting Out - Brand New DAB with a Side of HAM

Despite the urge to stay in and watch new TEEN WOLF episodes this past Saturday night, I joined my friend Jerry for an evening of story and song as delivered by the delightful, Sam Harris at the Renberg Theatre.  It was quite an enjoyable evening as Sam told us about his growing up, knowing that he was meant to be the fabulous entertainer that he is.  He did it with just the right amount of tongue in cheek... after all, the show is called HAM.

When one goes to one of these events in one of these venues, they are bound to see other folk they know.  This very night, I was pleased to see my friend Robert in the house and he sat with us.  Alone.  Robert announced to us that he has joined the ranks of muh DABs! (Die Alone Buddy).  I was sorry to hear of the break up, but was quick to inform him that he shan't die alone, because he could die alone with me.  Then we started commiserating about on-line dating.  It's so nice to have a new DAB!
As you can see, Robert is a handsome, fun loving, sweetheart of a guy who enjoys pool parties!
If you have any interest in Robert, let me know.  I'm sure he'd like to know there's interest out there!
If I have to lose a DAB, I suppose it'd be nice to lose him to an eligible suitor.  meanwhile, I'm sure Jerry was dying for the show to start, since he's been happily relationshipped for years and all this dying alone talk must be so old hat and unimportant to him.  "Calm down, Arlene! There'll be songs in five minutes!" I might have yelled at him for no reason. I just had to make sure Robert knew he was muh DAB and I had his back.  That's a gift of Getting Out!

S'up Muh DAB? - The Value of Kitty Gems

This week in Palm Springs was amazing.  Certainly, the time away from work in a quiet little desert city and tasty eats was quite the tonic, but it was my fellow DABs (Die Alone Buddies) that made the week so special.  Five single gays with no agenda, save for relaxing & having fun in a house with a swimming pool and great lighting; a really big ball of crazy.  As the week wound away, muh DAB, Dennis and I completed a jigsaw puzzle

We enjoyed the pool

We had an Iron On afternoon that went horribly awry

We went to the movies

We ate out often

We entertained guests

Our greatest accomplishment was putting together an entire Thanksgiving dinner!

It was a special meal with special folk

My favorite moment, if I could pick one, was the fabulous fun-time photo shoot that yieled the "Kitty" gems

The most valuable part of the week was the time spent enjoying each others' company, whether we were listening to a new music "mix tape", recording a pod cast, watching TWO HEADED SHARK ATTACK, sitting around talking or even annoying each other, these guys reminded me that I may not have a partner, but I do have friends that will be there with me and will not let me die alone. ...especially because they may be the ones holding a pillow to my face. (As I am smothered, I will appreciate that the pillowcase will feature the above photo- as made at Zazzle)

S'up, Muh DAB?- Dudley's Birthday

So, muh DAB, Dudley, had a birthday party, organized by friends who decided that the perfect theme would be, Dress as Dudley.  If you'll remember, Dudley is quite the creative type, so there were many previous costumes to shose from.  I let my week get away from me and before I knew it, I was scrambling on Saturday afternoon, with half of an appropriate costume.
It was based on well, this photo...
...that is to say that I had a pair of cut-off shorts that I'm too fat for now and some socks that go above my ankles.  I could have sworn that I had suspenders...  Fortunately, the party oprganizers set up a room where one could craft a Dudley costume.  Thank God!!
As a single gay of a certain age, I was slightly tempted to throw in the towel and just stay home with my Xbox and watch a mopey movie.  But, no! I have pledged to get myself out of the house more and go.  Besides, it's muh DAB's birthday!!  So off I went.

Again, I do enjoy being single, because I got to flirt with some cuties and my tongue might have ended up in someone's mouth for a photo op.  ...ANYTHING for a photo op, right?
So, I was out later than usual and had a great time laughing with friends, oogling hotties and enjoying myself!
Of course, there are pictures...

Still didn't get lucky, though...

S'up Muh DABs? - COMIC CONgratulations!

Well, it looks like I lost two DABs this weekend.  No, it looks like Billy and Barry will not be dying alone.  Barry proposed to Billy in front of a huge crowd at Comic Con on the 10th.
Billy & Barry are two sweet fellas that go nice together, so it's not a big surprise.
A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to them from me!
(I hope they continue to visit my blog (presumptuous, I know!))

If you would look to see it all go down, you can watch it HERE <--- click that!

S'up, Muh DAB? - Dudley

This is Dudley, he's currently one of my DABs- (Die Alone Buddy).
He's single.
I like Dudley very much; he's nice, fun and generous.
What I admire most about Dudley is his creative drive!
Dudley gets an idea and he executes it to delicious perfection.
There are artsy projects in his home that I have thought about doing and having
in my home, but I never got around to doing it.  Not Dudley, he thinks it up and paints,
draws, sews or builds until it is done and up for everyone's enjoyment.
Bravo to him!

Another aspect of his creativity I admire is his Party Throwing Super Powers!
Every one of Dudley's parties are thought out and played out to the hilt.
They are all themed and stupendously fun.
It's rare to find a guest of his that is "too Cool" to dress-up.

He's a great host, in that he decks out the place,
and welcomes everyone personally.

His enthusiasm is contagious so everyone tries to "bring it"
and even the laziest costume is something that wouldn't be sneered at
WeHo Carnaval.

Sometimes, Dudley pulls an Angela Landsbury and has three or more
outfits for the night.

The guest list always has a number of interesting folks who are hunky, creative, talented
funny,  and single- typically, they're a nice combo of it all,

When you go to one of his parties, you can always count on a good time, meeting fun folks and feasting on eye candy of all sorts!

And then there's this:
You gotta love a guy who decides he wants to make a movie and less than a year later has a completed product.  It's not some hack-rate vanity piece either!  It's a very fun, well produced comedy that is very entertaining.  I was so proud of and very excited for him as I sat and watched the movie at a screening.  I was also a little angry with myself for not having something even close to coming to fruition like this.  I know it isn't easy, but Dudley makes it seem like his creativity comes to life with a simple flick of his finger.  Look what happened when he flicked last year-

I really like this movie and encourage you to check it out on Netflix or even get your own DVD at Amazon.com because it's a movie you'll enjoy over and over again.

That's muh DAB!  I think part of the reason I like to spend time with him is because I hope even a smidgen of his magic will rub off on me. ...and he's a hoot!
