Gay of a Certain Age - Drag Burn
Drag season is in full swing and I'm ready to sit it out on the bench!
Tonight is Dragstrip: a dance party fundraiser to help complete a documentary about the legendary club. Seeing as how I was a little part of that, I'd like to go. But do I have to go in drag if I'm not performing???
It's freakin' DRAGSTRIP 66! How can I not?
As a Gay of a Certain Age, I'm starting to learn that holding a full time job
and dragging it up on weeknights takes its toll. I'm learning that stray eyelash glue
ain't the only thing keeping my eyelids shut.
I'm thinking that I still have three or more drag gigs next week... Oy!
I guess for some the drag is their full time job, so it kills two birds with one eyeliner.
Yeah, I guess I still have a good time doing it, but gosh, I'm pooped!
I will be a trooper, slap up, get there and have a good time!
I guess I've got plenty of time to be old after...

He Don't Even Know! - Keep me wet!
This is "Enrique"
I imagine he lets me call him Quiqui,
I imagine he lets me call him Quiqui,
along with his other friends.
Quiqui is very supportive!
Not only can he lift me over his shoulders
to get me closer to a light bulb
that needs changing,
he also comes with me to
my performances
to help with set up,
or anything he can do.
Then, he sits in the crowd watching me perform.
Then, he sits in the crowd watching me perform.
Very supportive!
No matter how many times he's seen a show or bit I do,
he always laughs as if it's the first time.
Here he is at CSW Pride last year,
making sure I kept hydrated
while I did color commentary
for the judges' table
during the parade.
I'm going to imagine him there
next week also,
as I do color commentary ,again.
as I do color commentary ,again.
...thinking about having a Quiqui.

Gay of a Certain Age - Southern Rebel!
As a Gay of a Certain Age, I've been finding grey hairs for quite a while, now.
They first appeared in my beard, which I was very pleased about. Better there than my head, right?
Then they started appearing on my head, with a lot of Moxie!
They stick straight out screaming "Look at me! Look at me!", but as long as I keep my hair short, they aren't too much of a sight.
Then, I noticed a few on my chest. I don't know when those started appearing because I've been forced to trim my chest for the drag stuff so often.
Now, it has finally happened... I found my first grey... down there!
I was going through my usual morning routine when it caught the light in a way that made it seem like it meant to say, "Well, good morning. I've been wondering when you'd finally notice me. Aren't I just adorable & different?" Well gosh, no. It's not adorable, but it is different.
I didn't really react as dramatically as this photo would have you believe. I haven't limited myself because of my age (I have used it as an excuse in some cases... I mean, who wants to leave the house at 10:00 pm on a Saturday?) age is just a number, in most cases so I really enjoy Birthday celebrations and don't mind a little salting of my pepper. It's just a little weird to have this visual reminder there. Golly, I've always felt quite youthful there, even though I haven't shared my youth much with others lately, I have enjoyed the playground very much alone. Well, chalk up another one for time... just don't chalk up so much down there!

He Don't Even Know! - De-lovely and Delicious
Hello, imaginary boy friend, "Stan"!
Stan is the man!
I love him so,
because he's up for anything at any time!
Here we see Stan
hopping off of his pool towel
to dance to Dee-Lite's
because I said it was one of my favorite songs
as it came on.
He danced to the entire song
just for me!
He didn't even stop when his trunks loosened
and fell down
to his ankles.
...Turns out the groove is not
only in the heart!

This Is Why I Am Single - I SAID..!
I don't know why it is, but stuff comes out of my mouth at a very quick clip.
I'm not aware of it until I see a video of a performance or hear a
recording of me. Then, I wonder why no body told me that I was being unintelligible!
This is why I am single; I think some of the guys I get flirty and clever with, have no idea how charming I am being because they can't understand anything coming out of my mouth.
They have no idea I'm coming on to them, or worse still, have no idea when I'm being straight forward with them and might have actually said, "Take me, I will be your slave."
I know thoughts race through my head at breakneck speeds, but my mouth has always been faster than my brain, (That's another "This Is Why I am Single in itself).
Looking back, I feel so sorry for my mother who would always ask me, "what?" and I'd blow up at her with a frustrated "I SAID...!", as if it was her fault words were coming out of my mouth like lightning. ...As if she wasn't listening. Honestly, it's hard for me to tell when I'm doing it, but I guess I have to assume I'm doing it all the time. So whenever I'm waxing Noel Cowardesque, and the guy is giving a blank stare, I'll consciously slow down my speech. If I still get the blank stare, I'll go to my default assumption that he just doesn't get me.
Actually, this realization has boosted my self esteem a little bit, because now I can look back at all that rejection and dismiss some if it as a lack of understanding my lightning fast speech on their part. Of course, in that case, I don't know how much I want to improve my elocution...
Golly!

Too Busy For Love - Drag Season!
OMG! I would totally love to see SAN ANDREAS with you, but I'm too busy!
I had a photo shoot with the Fabulous Dusti Cunningham today as Reba Areba,
then tomorrow night I have a party gig as Frieda Laye. Not even the weeknights are
safe! Tuesday I have a charity Drag Bingo to call and then next Thursday I have a corporate
Out lunch event, then, another photo shoot with Duke Shoman with Chico's Angels, then before you know it, CSW Pride will be upon us, where the Angels and I will be providing color commentary at the judges' table in the Parade. I barely had enough time to post this!
I guess I'll have to wait awhile to see SAN ANDREAS with you.
Until then, I'll be shaking it on my own!
