Still Too Busy For Love! - Work/Show/Party

I'd love to go walk amongst the 300,000 shirtless gays & 200,000 slutty girls & 100,000 scared straight hunks, & 200,000  uncostumed looy-loos with you in West Hollywood tonight, but I'm still too busy!!

I've even been too busy to blog!  What with working all day, then doing the show...

Then rushing off to a different party every night after the show...

I gets so crazy, that I can't even think of trying to fall in love!  If I keep this up, I'll be too busy to eat!  At least, then, I'd be as thin & sexy as this girl.
She was so confident she wore nothing but the shiny stuff.  I mean NOTHING BUT!
I swear I saw her glittoris!

I'll be done Sunday!
But thanks for asking!

Too Busy For Love - Jack-O-Angels

I would love to go to that Halloween party where everyone is required to be dressed as a shirtless sexy pirate with you, but I'm too busy!!
I just got back from New York and the rest of my week is filled with rehearsals and a show.
Honestly, I've only taken a bit of time to rearrange my Broadway magnet collection on my refrigerator to squeeze in my new shows

and the rest of the time has been rehearsing, getting stuff together for the show, work and sleep.
I'm also invited to a couple of parties Thursday, Friday & Saturday night after the show, if you wanna go with me, but I don't even know if I'll be up for going to those after performing this exhausting show in 6 inch heels...
If you wanna come to the show
you can get tickets HERE.  if you're into the TEEN WOLF on the MTV or the movie UNFRIENDED and want to see Shelley Hennig live on stage, she'll be doing our Saturday Matinee and both Sunday Shows!

So, tell the sexy pirates about me and thanks for asking!

Gay of A Certain Age - Marie's Crisis is Our Brand

One of the reasons I enjoyed this last trip to New York most was
that I visited places I had taken for granted and not visited for years.
One such place is the the old Gay Triangle on Christopher street- home of The Stonewall, The Monster and Boot & Saddle (although I think Boot & Saddle is gone).
The place has changed quite a bit.  There's now a Big Gay Ice Cream store on the corner
where I enjoyed a Big Gay Pumpkin (Gluten-free) cone!  The ice cream is magical and has the consistency of whipped butter. Delicious!

Another change is the line to get in to one of my old haunts, Marie's Crisis Cafe!  A line??
Fortunately my friend, Gerald (with a hard G) has some charm & pull and got me in the place immediately.
Used to be, in the old days, you'd just walk in, order a drink and sing along to show tunes to your heart's content.  You might even meet a handsome fella who knows just as many Sondheim lyrics as you do!  I developed a crush on someone this very night.  Perhaps you can guess which one it is in this photo.

Nowadays, the place is crazy crowded with more than 50% college girls who think it's cool to be there.  It's obvious that they have no interest in the show tunes because they spend a lot of time talking louder than the singing, sounding like raging seagulls plotting an attack on the beachside Subway sandwich shop!  Despite the noisy girls and my crush leaving half way through my visit, I had a great time!  Thanks to Gerald and his two, non-college girlfriends, along with a strong Campari & soda, I was able to capture the feeling of the old days when I would come to Marie's on every NY visit.

I remember that the main reason that I had stop coming was that the pianist I always ended up catching on duty was a lacivious schmuck who thought it was a hoot to turn every song into a naughty ditty.  Fortunately, the pianist this night was at the top of his game, respectful of the music and a cutie, to boot!

The only reason I left when I did, with at least two more hours left in the piano, was because I didn't want to be sleepy during my matinee the next day.  I was very pleased.
As a Gay of A Certain age, it's nice to find that though some places have changed or have become different, they can still be a source of happy times & a place to enjoy new delights!  TRY BIG GAY ICE CREAM!

He Don't Even Know - Central Park Daddy

This is "Edward"
I call him my
Central Park Daddy
because that's where I met him,
and he is daddylicious.
My favorite thing about Edward
is when he tries to use his authoritarian voice
to try to order me to work out with him in the park.
I giggle and agree to go,
but only to take pictures.
When we get home from the park,
we soak in a salty bath and
look at the pictures I took!
Then, we do stuff that we probably shouldn't photograph...

Getting Out - When Cities Collide

Today, I actually made it to Central Park!  For the past 5 or 6 visits, I'd forgo the park for the High Line on my one full day to explore the outdoors. It was a fine time, although, I didn't actually venture anywhere in the park that I hadn't been before.
New to me, though, was a group of hunky street performers who entertained the crowds by forever teasing a really cool jump over five men.  They cleaned up!  I also enjoyed the leaves turning autumn colors.

This evening I saw AN AMERICAN IN PARIS
This was a great dance show!  I don't remember the movie as well as I'd like, but it felt like the stage show changed the story some and added some more plot.  I really enjoyed all aspects of the show, including the great use of projections.  So many shows have gone to using projections to scrimp on a set, but here it was integrated into the show and felt anything but cheap.  I haven't seen such great use of projections since SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (2008).
I was also struck by the Gershwin tune that hit close to home and seems to have more meaning as the years pass; The Man I Love.  These lyrics were probably the earliest strands of DNA for this blog.

Some day he'll come along,
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong,
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay.

He'll look at me and smile
I'll understand;
And in a little while,
He'll take my hand;
And though it seems absurd,
I know we both won't say a word

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not;
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day

He'll build a little home
Just meant for two,
From which I'll never roam,
Who would - would you?
And so all else above
I'm waiting for the man I love.
George & Ira Hershwin were probably drinking Campari & Soda when they wrote that one.

After the show, instead of going to bed, as I am wont to do, I decided to abide by my Getting Out rule and met my friend Gerald (with a hard G) at Barracuda in Chelsea.  I am so glad I did! We ran into so many L.A. & N.Y. friends that both of us hadn't seen in a long time!  First I ran into actor/director/inspiration, Jack, then caught up with Gerald.  Then, in walks Harley & Jonathan whom I used to see in L.A.  and whom Gerald hasn't seen in forever.  We got so excited we had to take a pic!
After the pic, playwright/director Del Shores saunters up to us for a "hello."  Also, the music was uncommonly good and the Campari & soda was strong!  I was having such a great time!  The only reason I left was to come blog about it!  Getting out tonight was an "f"ing blast!

Note: So the music was fantastic and I was doing these hot & sexy pelvic rolls and thrusts that were really me stretching out my lower back.  Ah, to be a Gay of A Certain Age...

Too Busy For Love - In NY

I would have loved to come over for Hulu Plus & Chill, but I'm in New York tonight.
I flew in via Virgin American, grabbed a cab, AirB&Bed, ran to TKTS, where I got a ticket to ALLEGIANCE, enjoyed a Campari & soda at dinner and watched the show.
I found the performances rewarding, but the show itself does not seem fresh.
In any case, it's always great to hear Lea Solonga sing!

After my show, I hung outside of the Brooks Atkinson to stalk congratulate my actor friend,
Alex Wyse, on bringing SPRING AWAKENING from L.A. to the Broadway.  He says he's having a blast!

After that I grabbed a pistachio gelato and headed to my AirB&B space, otherwise, I totally would have watched THE MINDY PROJECT and made out with you.  Thanks for asking!

Too Busy For Love - The MISERY of New York

I would love to go with you on that weekend cruise to Ensenada, but I'm too busy!   I'm going to be in New York, Thursday through Sunday!  Suere that game of Strip Lotteria sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm focusing on my excitement for seeing Laurie Metcalf in MISERY on the Broadway and other
fun time musicals- I will see no less than 5 shows this weekend!

I'll be sure to keep you filled in, if you promise not to ge to sauced on tequila!
Thanks for asking!

Gay of A Certain Age - The 13

I know, I just turned 48, but something in me makes me squeal like a third grader
when a new Dunny Series comes out!  I have no idea what's going on with KidRobot,
but they've been lacking in Dunys this year.  Suddenly there's a few new special editions and finally a series release!  This series by Brandt Peters rocks!   I like it because I love his style and it fits in with the Halloween season so well!

I know I've written about how I worry that so many Dunnys in my home may scare a potential suitor away, but c'mon!  These Dunnys ROCK!!  Also, as a Gay of A Certain Age, I know it is important to mourish my inner child.
I just need to find someone who can appreciate my like for these vinyl treasures,
but doesn't collect his own, because if we ever broke up and he tried to claim some of my Dunnys as his own...  ...let's just say, I'd be dying alone because I would be in solitary confinement.
Maybe this shoud be a This Is Why I Am Single entry.

He Don't Even Know!- The Trinket King

This is my "Boyfriend", "George".
He's a sweetheart!
My favorite thing about him is that
he lets me know he's thinking of me
by grabbing a little something while he's out & about.
This particular day,
he was thinking how I was his little monkey
and then he saw this,
so, he got it for me!
Better yet, when the place starts looking cluttered,
he'll tell me to clear out some of the stuff,
because he knows the real value is in the gesture
and not the item.
Of course, he doesn't know that I hide away
some of my most favorite trinkets from him.
I know that the item is not really the gift,
but I'd be a nut to get rid of a hard to find Dunny!
He must have known how hard it is to find this when he got it for me,
but he put a material value on it,
as if it was as thirfty as the paper rooster
he got off of a stack of promos!
He said the real worth was in my smile when I opened it.
I did smile, really big,
and I smile every time I see it.
...But I smile bigger when I see "George"

GAY-chievement - A Date

I am a happy gay this week!  I felt like a cutie gave me an in, and instead of running away,
I took a chance and invited him over for a nice little movie night with Thai food.  He said, "yes."
So there it is, a GAYchievement!

I shan't kiss & tell, but it was a nice evening with this little Halloween gem
because, what is better to watch than a spewky movie to inspire a little close sitting?
We dined on Pad Thai and water, Mmmm! (We were both sure not to eat the entire meal...)

So there it is!   I may die alone, but it won't be because I didn't ask...

Gay Of A Certain Age - Single Rider

As a Gay Of A Certain Age, I am in a position to take a day, as I please, and indulge the younger me inside me.  I went to Disneyland to enjoy the Halloween decor and celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the park.  There's nothing like riding the rides, eating the snacks and waiting in the lines for nine hours.

I went with my married friends, who, obviously, utilized the single rider line illegally, generally mocking me and my singleness.  We did the California Adventure park first, because we planned to eat lunch at the Carthay Circle Lounge restaurant.

We took in my favorite ride of all time early.  I love the 3-D Toy Story Midway Mania shooting gallery!  That almost made up for the fact that the park was terribly crowded and it was a hot sunny day.  Lunch was delicious, even though, I was disappointed by the gluten-free bread treatment, which is usually very delicious.

We were delighted to see Disneyland decked out in the Halloween spirit...

...and pleased that the Latino culture is being embraced with a little
Day of the Dead display.

The lines were so long,
people started to find different ways to keep themsleves amused.

I kept myslef amused by scoping out
some daddylicious
park patrons.
I found as many as 6 unknowing boyfriends!

We topped off the night with the longest line
and most fun ride,
Space Mountain,
changed up with the spewky
Ghost Galaxy theme.

We bid the park goodnight
and I vowed to return at least 3 more times
in the next 12 months
to make my purchase of a yearly pass worth it!

Maybe I'll find some sweet suitor who has a pass of his own and we can enjoy riding together!

This Is Why I Am Single - Delayed Response

It had been sitting there since Sept 28, I saw it there and I just let it sit.
I have filled some space here, in my blog, about the trials of on-line dating in FU Cupid,
and I'll complain about other guys' bad manners...
This Is Why I Am Single, I let a message sit in my FU Cupid box for over a week.   I'm guilty of leaving this kid hanging waiting for a response to his greeting.  I hate when guys do that to me.
Here's why I did it.  I looked at his profile, it was sparse and he had one photo which looked like he was quite young and not my cup of green tea.  Regardless of my unattraction to him, I think it's generally good manners to at least respond with a "thanks, but no thanks."  I just didn't have it in me to write something that is disappointing and risks being arrogant.  I'm usually better about it, but I have let a few messages go unresponded.  The non-response seems to be an accepted part of the on-line dating thing, but I don't like it.   I think maybe my lack of viable suitors could be a little Karmic payback for leaving a few guys I'm not attracted to hanging.  Even if it isn't, I will try to treat others as I want to be treated.  As Glenn Close said I Fatal Attraction, "I'm not gonna be ignored, Dan."  I'd like to change that to, "I'm not gonna ignore, Dan" especially if you promise not to shoot me in the head in the tub.

He Don't Even Know! - Run Joe, Run

Meet "Joe".
My favorite thing about Joe
is that he is very green.
He will not drive anywhere that he can run.
Joe is always running!
Joe runs to the gym,
to work,
to the grocery store
and most importantly
to me!

I don't mind when he gets sweaty all over me,
he has a terribly sexy "sweat body".
I appreciate that the one time
I actually agreed to go prentend running with him,
that he stayed with me
all the way to the tenth block
where I simply petered out
and slowed to a staggered walk
and walked in a small circle.
He kept going.
I thought he left me behind,
but he was back in five minutes
with a cold bottle of water
he got at the 7-Eleven
two blocks away.
He told me to rest while he finished up
and if I wanted to wait for him,
he'd carry me home
on the way back.

I did wait for him,
in the door way,
where I carried him over the threshold
and to the bathroom
where we took a very long
HOT shower together.

Getting Out - Best In Drag Show

So, instead of heading home after the Tom of Finland Art Fair,
I headed down town to the Orpheum Thatre.
You see, my instinct was to go home, put my feet up
and watch some zombies eat people.
However, I'm trying to get out more,
so when my friend Oscar called and said someone was selling
a ticket to the show. I jumped on it.

So, there I was, waiting for the big red curtain to go up,
because I just don't get enough drag, right?

So the show started,
and immediately it was a good time.

The contestants were a hoot:

Miss Alaska
Ivana Kutchakokoff

Miss California
Maria Lopez

Miss Illinois
Pepper Spray

Miss Louisiana
Britney Shears

Miss Nevada
Lucky Dyce

Miss Florida
Joy Vey

There was color commentary

provided by
Kay Sedia & Dee W. Ieye

They were all very talented

The show moved at a surprisingly quick pace
Patrick Rush

There were celebrity judges
Wendie Malick

Kathy Kinney

Wendi McLendon-Covey

Boris Kodjoe & Nicole Ari Parker

There were hot mens
Miss Florida's guys

And I ran into some friends

And by the time a winner was crowned...
Miss Alaska

A great time was had and I made some new friends (ish)
(not at all)
Candis Cayne

Dot Jones

Did I mention Boris Kodjoe was there?

I'm so glad I didn't go home!
